The Brooks academic building, part of the new £139m Birley development at our Manchester Campus, is within walking distance of the main transport hubs of central Manchester, and is adjacent to many of the main bus routes.
It is located between Stretford Road, Old Birley Street and the Princess Parkway and is less than 10 minutes’ walk away from the rest of the Manchester Campus and Oxford Road.
The new Birley development has been designed to be a green facility with minimal reliance on car travel therefore, travelling by public transport is advised, wherever possible.
You can walk to the Brooks Building from Manchester’s three main railway stations: it is approximately a 25-minute walk from Piccadilly, 15 minutes walk from Oxford Road and a similar walk from Deansgate.
The nearest Metrolink station is Deansgate-Castlefield, approximately 10 minutes’ walk away.
Please note: the footbridge across to Deansgate railway station and adjacent stairwell is currently closed for refurbishment. Please follow temporary signage for alternative access to Whitworth Street West.
Numerous buses operate between the Brooks building and Manchester City Centre (Bus Number: 86, 250, 291, 256, x58, 263, 253, 255).

From the M56, south of Manchester, keep in right hand lanes at Junction 3 (signposted City Centre) and continue from the end of the M56 onto A5103 (Princess Parkway), signposted Manchester city centre. Continue ahead for approximately 6 miles, exit on to Phoenix Way and then continue straight along the slip road towards the Brooks Building.
From the M60, north and east of Manchester, exit at Junction 22 and turn right at traffic lights onto A62. Continue until the end of A62 and turn left onto A665. Continue along A665 for approximately 1 mile. Take a slight right and continue straight on A635(M)/Mancunian Way and then onto A57(M)/Mancunian Way for 1 mile.
Take the A5103 exit and at the roundabout, take the first left onto Cambridge Street A5067. Continue straight along Higher Cambridge Street and turn right onto Booth Street West. Take the first left onto Boundary Lane and continue on to Greenheys Lane for approximately half a mile. Turn right onto the A5103/Princess Road (Northbound) then immediately exit onto the slip road towards the Brooks Building.
From the M602, west of Manchester, proceed to the end of the M602, join the A57(M) (Mancunian Way). Take the A56 ramp towards the city centre and at the roundabout, take the third exit onto Chorlton Road/A5067. Continue straight onto Chorlton Road/B5218. Turn left onto Bold Street and then left onto Greenheys Lane West. Turn left onto the A5103/Princess Road (Northbound) then immediately exit onto the slip road towards the Brooks Building.
Enter the postcode M15 5JH into Google Maps or a sat nav, which will direct you to Stretford Road. Turn south onto Old Birley Street and continue for approximately 500 yards. Turn left onto Greenheys Lane West. Turn left onto the A5103/Princess Road (Northbound) then immediately exit on to the slip road towards the Brooks Building. Take the first left for the multi-storey car park and the second left for visitor and disabled parking.
To be directed to the multi-storey car park via sat nav, enter the postcode M15 5RN. Once you arrive at this point, continue straight along Archway for approximately 100 yards and turn right to enter the multi-storey car park.

Limited visitor parking is available for members of the public. This includes 17 dedicated spaces for blue-badge holders. The visitor car park can only be accessed via the slip road off the Northbound carriageway of Princess Parkway. Please use the Birley Access Map for guidance.
There is no parking provided for applicants who are being interviewed for a place on a course, except for blue badge holders.
The Birley multi-storey car park is open to staff holding a valid MMU permit and to students studying at the Brooks building in the evenings and weekends. There is no student car parking available outside of these hours (except Blue Badge holders) and only limited local parking which is controlled by a residents' parking scheme.

Staff failing to display an valid MMU parking permit or parking outside of the designated times (including overnight), may receive a parking enforcement ticket. For more information on staff parking, please visit MMU Staff Travel.
There is a residential parking scheme in place around Birley. Parking will be monitored by Manchester City Council enforcement officers who will issue a parking notice to any vehicle not displaying a valid residential permit. There are many public and private car parks around the Manchester Campus and Oxford Road.
There are secure cycle parking facilities on the ground floor MSCP and many Sheffield cycle stands around the Brooks academic building.
