I qualified as a social worker in 1993 and have practiced with children and families, mainly with young people leaving care. Since leaving direct social work practice, I have been involved in the training of and education of others, as a training officer for a local authority, a voluntary organisation and as a Senior Lecturer in MMU's social work department since 2009.
Other academic service (administration and management)
Within the prequalifying programmes, I am module leader of the MA1 module Developing Profesional Practice and I teach and assess on this module. I further contribute to teaching within the children and families specialist elective and skills days. Within the CPD programmes we offer, I am unit leader for Developing the Professional Practitiner (ASYE) unit, where I teach and assess qualified social workers in their first year of practice. I teach on the Practice Educator Programme where I also deliver CPD workshops for Practice Educators. I am involved in practice education on a local and regional basis and sit on the Greater Manchester Practice Educator Programme Committee.

Research Expertise, Publications & Grants
I am interested in the development of Practice Educators and their role with social work students.My PhD studies focus on the Practice Educator role in the supervision of social work students on placement.
- I have collaborated with a colleague from UCLAN exploring PEs experiences of holisitc assessment (2014), a small research project which contributed to presentations at NOPT and JUSWEC 2014 and is the basis for a publication, 2015.
- I collaborated with partners from 2 local authorities as part of the Skills For Care Improving Direct Observations project, 2014-2016
