This blended learning unit offers speech and language therapists (SLT), nurses and other interested health professionals the opportunity to consider the evidence base behind the management of dysphagia (difficulties eating, drinking and swallowing) relevant to a variety of acquired and developmental conditions. Professionals will be able to reflect on their management practices within the field of dysphagia. On this academic unit, you will have the opportunity to explore topics including current management approaches, non-oral feeding and nutritional management, mental capacity assessment in relation to dysphagia, psycho-social impacts.
At Manchester Met, our academic team has clinical and research experience in the field of dysphagia. In 2015, they completed a study for Health Education North West on developing dysphagia competencies in the speech and language therapy profession.
