Previously, I worked in the Accident and Emergency Departments at Pennine Acute Hospitals - Oldham site and Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust in the 1990s.
Other experiences include working for NHS Direct and at an Out of Hours GP service undertaking Telephone Triage assessment with primary care patients. More recently, I volunteered as a Games Maker in the Medical Services team for London 2012 in their state of the art Polyclinic in Stratford, London.
I primarily teach on the final year BSc (Hons) in nursing programme. I predominantly teach Leadership, Management and Clinical Governance as well Research and Clinical Skills. I have a strong interest in Dementia Awareness and I am currently a Dementia Friends Champion and volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Society to encourage people to make a pledge on how to raise awareness of Dementia. I have also encouraged our students to make a pledge on how they will help carers to deal with a loved one with Dementia. See here for an example of MMU Nursing student’s pledges. https://dementiacarervoices.wordpress.com/2016/04/25/celebrating-353-pledges-with-manchester-university/ .
I have spent the last 2 years as the Student Quality Ambassador (SQA) Lead for MMU. I also represent the nursing programme as the Knowledge and Enterprise Champion. I like to explore innovative ways of teaching students, an example of which can be found on the Good Practice Exchange pages with my work on Research Flashmobs.
