I hold a number of additional therapeutic qualifications.
From 1992 until 2005 I was working as a teacher in primary schools in the North West. I had the additional role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
Since and during training as a Counselling Psychologist, I gained experience in Clinical Psychology and Specialist Psychotherapy Departments in the NHS, working with adults with complex and enduring mental health difficulties. I have also worked therapeutically in primary and secondary schools.
I have been working as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University since 2007.
I am the Route Lead for the BSc Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy programme. I lead units on this course and teach theory as well as practitioner skills.
I teach on a number of Masters units.
I supervise research students at Masters and PhD level.
I am the External Examiner for the University of West England's Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

I am currently working on my PhD project which aims to develop and explore multi-level psychotherapeutic approaches to working with women living with violence and distress. The project has been in partnership with Manchester Women's Aid.
I teach on the University of Manchester, Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DCounsPsych).
I am a Chartered and HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist, with experience of working in a variety of NHS settings and in the education system. I am also an accredited clinical and training supervisor and a member of the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.
As a former school teacher and SENCO I have extensive experience of working with children (and families of children) with emotional and behavioural difficulties. My current interests focus on the socio-political aspects of psychological therapy and social justice in relation to mental health.
I have worked with many women and men across the lifespan, who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect. I also have experience of working with clients who have chronic pain and physical health conditions including those that are medically unexplained. My preferred therapeutic approach is Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT) however I am also trained to work with Humanistic and CBT models.
I am a fully Chartered Member of the Division of Counselling Psychology
I am a member of BPS RAPPS (Register for Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors)
I am an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist
I am an Associate Member of the Division of Clinical Psychology
