I graduated from MMU in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) Psychology degree having returned to study as a mature student in 1995. I hold a PGCE (Higher & Further Education) and I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have also been a member of the British Psychological Society since 1995.
Prior to joining MMU as an Associate Lecturer in 2001, I worked as a part-time lecturer at The Ridge Further Education College, Stockport, teaching on the GCSE Advanced Level and Access to Higher Education Psychology courses as well as the part-time BSc (Hons) Psychology course, which fed students into Year 2 part-time at the MMU.
I have held several administrative posts during my employment with MMU including Year Tutor for Year 1 and Subject Leader for the Combined Honours route in Psychology (which I have carried out since 2004).
I also represent Psychology on the Faculty Student Experience Committee.
Elaine is the Unit Leader for the first year Foundations of Psychology unit on the Combined Honours route and the third year Applied Cognitive Psychology unit. I also teach on the Year 2 Cognitive and Neuropsychology unit and supervises undergraduate research projects.
My main administrative duties include that of Subject Leader for the Combined Honours route in Psychology and Year 1 Tutor for Combined Honours Psychology students. I am also a representative for the Psychology Department on the Faculty Student Engagement Committee.
My research interests are in the areas of cognitive biases elicited by emotional states (particularly selective attentional bias); mindfulness; well-being and stress.
