I undertook her social work qualification and MA at Manchester University
Before coming to MMU, I led Social Work at another university. I have worked as an academic for 6 years. I have been an active member of Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children's Board for 2 years. This extended to sitting on a number of sub groups including Multi Agency Case Review Panels.
I started my social care career working in adult services supporting adults with learning difficulties making the transition from living in long stay institutions to living in the community. I have worked in children's services as a child protection officer for the NSPCC. This role involved investigating allegations and complaints made by children involved with the Local Authority, many were made against professionals. In 2001, I moved from Manchester to London undertaking a number of management posts including working as an initial assessment service manager to working as Snr Manager for The London Borough of Islington with responsibility for Children in Need Services, Family Support Services and Contact Services. Many of my posts involved invoking and managing change. I have also undertaken training and consultancy on an independent basis. Additional work has included reviews of services, the development of early intervention services, multi disciplinary services and the development of joint funded posts.
I am a registered social worker.
