ABOUT MY CAREER

Deciding where to further my studies in between a career break was one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make. One of the main reasons I chose Manchester Metropolitan University for Fashion Buying and Merchandising was because of the modules being taught. It focuses specifically on what I wanted to learn more about, after spending six years working in the fashion industry. It has definitely helped me gain more knowledge about the industry and it was the best choice of course and the right learning environment for me!

After graduating, I took some time to focus on motherhood but it did not stop my eagerness to learn. Within the first year after graduating, a local growing company, Happikiddo, who has various brands under one roof, chose me as one of their panellist to do multiple product reviews via their social media platforms.

After a year, they selected me to be their first online personal shopper as I have a good understanding of their customers’ needs. Recognising that customers have different spending power and basic needs for their children, it allows me to consider different customer perspectives. I enjoy working at Happikkido and within the last 6 months, the department has grown resulting in better customer service.

There were various useful skills gained throughout my studies at Manchester Metropolitan University that I use regularly. For example, product sourcing, market research, problem solving, teamwork and public speaking! I believe without these skills, I would not have enjoyed my career as much as I do now. I have earned more knowledge by sharing my learnings with others.

During my studies, I took a writing class as one of my elective units and this helped me a lot in my content writing.

I’M INSPIRED BY

Most of my course lecturers; namely Lisa Trencher, Maria Malone, Nicholas Millington, as they were always receptive to new ideas. The knowledge they shared on their industry experiences is admirable! Every word of encouragement has given me a boost to always improve from my

MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS IS

Upon starting your course, do not limit yourself to a certainty that it may or may not work for your future career path. Be open and always search for opportunities that can be linked back to your course. This will drive you to become proficient in whatever you choose to do, whether that be working full time, working from home or setting up your own business, anything really!

Always remember that learning is a long journey in life!
