Biography

Martyn Cooke is a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant operating in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the Manchester Metropolitan University (Cheshire Campus). In addition to his teaching role, he is also a part-time PhD student researching the origins and early development of association football in North Staffordshire and a member of the International Sport and Leisure History Research Team (SpLeisH).

In addition to his responsibilities as a PTA and PhD Student he is also a Youth Support Worker at Cheshire East Council, a freelance sports journalist, and a volunteer at the Donna Louise Hospice.

Prior to working at MMU, Martyn spent a decade operating in the sport and leisure industry in a variety of roles and contexts. Position held include Sports Development Officer, Operations Manager, Football Coach and Research Associate, providing him with a wealth of experience.
