Biography

Sarah Grogan graduated from Cardiff University with a PhD in Psychology in 1984. Following that she worked at Manchester Polytechnic, University of Birmingham, Preston Polytechnic, Manchester Metropolitan University, and then Staffordshire University.  Sarah returned to Manchester Metropolitan University to take up a  role as Professor of Psychology Health and Well-being in 2013 and retired in 2020. She now holds an Emeritus Professor role in the Department of Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Interests and expertise

Sarah is interested in body image and its impact on a range of health-related behaviors including smoking and exercise. Sarah works with academics/researchers based in psychology, sport and exercise science, health promotion, and clothing/apparel, as well as with health professionals. Recent published work investigates relationships between body image and clothing fit/availability, and the impact of 3D body scanning on men and women’s body image. She is also interested in behaviour change, and ongoing work relates to smoking, alcohol, and use of e-cigarettes.
