Do you need to improve your English before you start your undergraduate or postgraduate programme? We can help!
The Language Centre at Manchester Met offers a range of English language courses for students preparing for university study in the UK. You will study with our team of highly-qualified tutors who have many years’ experience of preparing students for university study.
The Language Centre is accredited by the British Council. In our most recent inspection (2016) we were awarded nine areas of strength, including Teaching, Course Design, Learning Resources and Care of Students. We can help you improve your English and academic skills – the first step towards success at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Our Pre-sessional courses prepare students with the language and skills required to study a degree course successfully at the University. You will continue to improve your language skills, especially as they are applied to the academic environment. We want you to leave the course feeling more confident about your academic ability and UK academic culture. Courses run from April and throughout the summer for September degree entries.
You will learn about writing English in an academic style, using sources and referencing conventions, and thinking critically. You will practise listening to lecturers and taking useful notes. Along with improving your reading speed and accuracy and practising speaking English before audiences in formal situations. All these skills will be important for your degree course. On successful completion of the course, you will join your Department without the need for a further IELTS test. Our Pre-sessional programme is one of the few courses that allow students the chance to resubmit assessments if they are not successful on the first occasion.
