Manchester Metropolitan University’s academic structure and system of credits is based on blocks of 30-credits which often span the academic year. A full time credit load is 120 credits per year with students taking four different modules (of 30 credits each) across the year.

One Manchester Met credit comprises 10 working hours (including self-study). The number of contact hours can vary from one programme to another and teaching may include lectures, seminars and tutorials.

Studying for the full academic year

During the application process, you will need to select the modules that you want to study.

Details of our module offering for full year students is available online. For example, searching for ‘history’ will bring up all the history-related courses, select a course and then the ‘Course Details’ tab. This will show you a breakdown by year and you can select 'read more about this year of study’ to view your module options.

Studying for one semester

Manchester Metropolitan University has developed a number of semester programmes that allow for an assessment at the end of the term rather than the end of the year. Students on a semester programme will usually study 4 x 15 credit modules. You will be taking classes with students registered onto the 30-credit equivalent class, but you will sit an assessment at the end of your programme rather than at the end of the academic year.

There are a number of departments that have created bespoke semester modules of 15 credits. These are indicated in the tables below where relevant.

Please note: Unit information for 2018/19 is being updated as each department/subject area is confirmed. Students applying for study in 2018/19 should only use the 2017/18 unit information as a guide as it may change.
