Apply for your CAS

What is a CAS number?

A CAS is a unique number generated by the University. It confirms that you are eligible to study a course at Manchester Met. You must use your CAS in a Student Visa application to confirm that you are being sponsored to come to the UK and study.

Your CAS is unique to you and your course. You can only use the CAS number once. If you need to make another visa application, you must request a new CAS.

We also use your CAS number to confirm to UK Visas and Immigration if your academic circumstances change and if you are eligible for the Graduate Immigration Route.

When will your CAS be issued

If you an applicant joining a new course of study, have met the conditions of your offer and have paid a study deposit, or we believe you are likely to be financially sponsored, we will write to you when you are ready to request a CAS.

Please look out for emails from casrequest@mmu.ac.uk. Your email will include a link specific to you to provide information needed for your CAS - do not use a link forwarded to you by anyone else. Please note the deadline to request a CAS for the January 2024 intake is 15th December 2023.

Applicants joining a new course making their visa application overseas

If you are making your application from overseas, the earliest we can issue a CAS to you is six months before your course start date. If you submit your CAS request less than six weeks before your course start date, we might also write to you to request a copy of the financial evidence you will be using to support your visa application.

Applicants joining a new course making their visa application from within the UK

If you are making your application from within the UK, we may need information about your previous course before we issue a CAS to you, if applicable. We will make an assessment on your eligibility to make a visa application from within the UK under the Immigration Rules. The earliest we may be able to issue a CAS to you if you are planning to make the application from within the UK is 3 months before your course starts.
