"My intention is to go into journalism. Manchester Met has allowed me to make connections in the academic community and with professionals across the world."
What do you enjoy most about your course?

For me, studying at Manchester Metropolitan University has been a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and has given me the ability to build on my confidence and self-esteem which I had struggled with before coming to university.

What has been your favourite module of the course so far, and why?

I really enjoyed Power and Culture in the Hispanic World during my second year of study. This module gave me an incisive and informative look into Spanish and Latin American culture which was great preparation for my year abroad in Murcia during my 3rd year. In addition, the module introduced me to an extensive collection of Hispanic cinema and literature which I greatly enjoyed watching and reading.

How has this course helped you to prepare for your future career?

My intention is to go into the field of journalism after university. This degree has enhanced my academic writing, time management and intercultural communication skills which will be very beneficial to my future prospects. In addition, studying at Manchester Met has allowed me to make connections in an extensive academic community, other students, and professionals across the world which I am very grateful for.

What opportunities have you taken advantage of while studying here? How has this added to your time at Manchester Met?

I have attended many of the career support workshops organised by the department which gave me very useful advice regarding my plans for my future career. In addition, in my fourth year, I became a course rep which has allowed me to establish greater connections with the fellow students on my course and helped me to become an approachable figure for students who have any questions or require advice.

Have you completed a placement or study abroad year? If so, who was it with and what did it involve?

During my 3rd year I was able to take advantage of the study abroad opportunity and be able to study at the Universidad de Murcia in the city of Murcia, Spain for the academic year. During my time in Spain, I was able to put my Spanish language skills into practice and I even challenged myself by learning a completely new language, Italian. I also travelled extensively across the country and saw many of Spain’s biggest cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Sevilla, Bilbao and many more; it was a truly unforgettable experience.

How has studying in Manchester complimented your studies?

Manchester is a wonderful city with a great social life for students. This atmosphere has allowed me to forge lifelong friendships.
