In November 2014, the second Louder then Words Festival took place in Manchester. This festival celebrates the written word on music and the music inductry. Based on my research interests that include investigations of the dance floor as both a physical and social space, I was invited to be part of a panel contesting the common notion of youth and youth culture. Based on my research, I took part in a lively discussion
on Manchester’s music scene, the drug consumption at club events or raves, and
the changing demographic at electronic dance music events. Referring to my
latest research, I was able to comment on the topic of age and ageing in
relation to youth culture. (http://www.hssr.mmu.ac.uk/hip/201415-events/contesting-youth/louder-than-words-panel/)

Scheme: Our Heritage Grant - Memories, Communities & Belonging: The Lapsed Clubber Heritage Map of Greater Manchester 1985-1995 (2017-2018)
Popular culture has referenced rave culture in Greater Manchester in print, in major films, on TV and in theatre, but almost always from the perspective of the well-known expert insider. Focusing on the raving landscape between 1985 and 1995, this project will create the Lapsed Clubber Heritage Map. The map will explore and celebrate heritage through the recording of spoken and written memories. Through co-production, the community has the opportunity to actively shape the way in which its heritage is recorded and represented. The map will be hosted by MDMArchive with a view to link the memories to already existing artefacts in the archive and, as a result, create a multi-sensory experience.

This project, which was a collaboration with Prof. Ray Wilkinson (University of Sheffield), analyses the interactional process of musicians from rehearsal to public performance. at. Data in the form of interviews, sound recordings and video recordings have been collected. The interview data is being analysed qualitatively by means of atlas.ti, the sound recordings are being analysed by using several software packages such as Cubase and Melodyne, and the video-recorded interaction of the
musicians is being analysed by means of Conversation Analysis (CA). Three papers are currently being prepared for submission in 2015 and 2016.
