The Manchester Law School Law Society is one of the largest societies at Manchester Metropolitan University. They host a variety of events throughout the academic year ensuring that all students, law or otherwise, get the most out of their university experience.
The Law Society aims to inspire and support members who aspire to work in the legal profession by providing students with opportunities to network and improve their academic abilities and knowledge of the law. They also offer students fun, enjoyment and the opportunity of making new friends and socialising with like-minded individuals.
There are Guest Speaker events throughout the year alongside a series of exclusive workshops and various clinics that are guaranteed to boost your CV and increase your awareness of career opportunities. How to join
To join the Law Society, visit the society page on The Union website and select the 'join us' tab, you will then need to enter your university ID and password.
Membership to join the Law Society is just £10 for the year and is available to all law an non-law undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Memberships are also available to purchase via Met Card from the Union.

Dr Haytham al Hamwi

In the early 2000s Haytham al Hamwi was imprisoned by Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime. His four-year sentence was for organising street clearning, anti-bribery campaigns and a protest against the invasion of Iraq.
After serving two and a half years, Dr al Hamwi received a presidential pardon and was released from prison. Now based in the UK, MLS Law Society hosts an afternoon with Dr al Hamwi as he talks about his life in Syria.

Nasir is a qualified solicitor. He represents clients arrested at the police station and at court for an array of serious and minor crimes including fraud and terrorism. Nasir specialises in an has extensive knowledge and insight into terrorism offences and anti-terrorism powers.
The MLS Law Society hosts an afternoon with Nasir as he discusses his experiences of working within the criminal justice system and will be providing invaluable career advice for aspiring Solicitors and Barristers. Nasir will also be presenting a critical review of the Prevent Strategy. This will include making recommendations for change so we have an effective, fit for purpose counter-violence and safeguarding strategy that finds the right balance between security and liberty considerations.
