The Greater Manchester Youth Justice University Partnership has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Organisation of the Year’ category at the Criminal Justice Alliance Awards 2018. The awards highlight individuals and organisations who have made a ‘marked contribution to effectiveness, fairness or new models of delivery’ in criminal justice.

Launched in 2014, GMYJUP is part of the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies (MCYS) research centre and is a partnership between the University, the Youth Justice Board and the ten Youth Justice Services across Greater Manchester. It is unique model linking effective practice, research capabilities, and collaborative approaches to delivering youth justice services.

Hannah Smithson, Professor of Criminology and Youth Justice and Head of the MCYS at Manchester Metropolitan, said:

'We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Criminal Justice Alliance Awards, as it really demonstrates the value of academic/practice partnerships. The work of GMYJUP is a great example of the live integration of theory and practice. It provides an innovative and progressive model for the redevelopment of service delivery in the youth justice sector.
This recognition means that others can learn from us, as we are considered a blueprint for effective academic/practice partnerships.'
