You must therefore keep your Met Card safe and not let anyone else use it.
  2. Funds can be added to the Met Cardup to a maximum value of £5,000.
  3. You can use your Met Card for a range of goods and services within Manchester Met and at other selected merchants. The list may change from time to time and the current list of participating outlets and eligible items can be found on the Met Card page. You may also use any of your Manchester Met Student Support Packages towards your tuition and Manchester Met accommodation fees.
  4. Certain items cannot be purchased using your Met Card e.g., book tokens, gift vouchers, stamps, alcohol, tobacco products, purchases from the Starbucks franchise within Blackwell’s, food or drink at Sugden Sports Centre and Manchester Aquatics Centre. Manchester Met reserves the right to amend this list of items. Manchester Met reserves the right to impose a maximum transaction value in relation to particular purchases or Met Card merchants. These will be notified to you pre-purchase on the Met Card partner merchant websites and on the up-to-date list and terms.
  5. The Met Card can only be used for purchases that are equivalent to or less than the value of the available funds in your Met Card account.
  6. There is no minimum spend on the Met Card.
  7. Card balances are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  8. For any purchase made with the Met Card, you may be asked for additional ID(e.g., Manchester Met student or staff ID card) so please be prepared to show this ID.
  9. These Met Card terms apply in addition to the usual terms and conditions for the purchase you are making. If you have any concerns or complaints regarding a purchase that you have made using the Met Card, you should contact the retailer.
  10. You must not allow anyone else to use your Met Card.
  11. As the Met Card is for your personal use only, you must not use the Met Card: (i) to pay for goods or services for anyone else.; (ii) for commercial purposes or for financial gain. It is entirely at Manchester Met’s discretion to accept or reject any order or transaction, including if in its reasonable opinion, you are in breach of this clause 11.
  12. If your Met Card is lost or stolen you must ensure it is deactivated immediately to ensure that any balance on the card is protected, as you may have to pay for any purchases made before the card is deactivated. You can deactivate the card online at any time.
  13. Manchester Met will not pay for any purchases made with the Met Card before it is deactivated.
  14. For damaged, lost, or stolen cards you can order replacements online.
  15. The system records all transactions on your Met Card account. If a new card must be issued the balance from your old card will be transferred onto it.
  16. You can check your balance and transaction history at any time. If you are concerned with any transaction on your account, you should raise this immediately with Manchester Met.
  17. Funds added to your Met Card will be used in a particular order. In the case of students, funds coming from Student Support Packages will be used before any top-up monies that have been added by you.
  18. Any unspent balance will remain on your Met Card for use in subsequent academic years, subject to clause 19.
  19. When you leave Manchester Met, any unspent balance on your Met Card will be treated in the following way:
  • Any balance will be applied against any unpaid debt to Manchester Met. The treatment of any balance that then remains depends on the source of that balance as set out in clauses 19b and 19c below.
  • If the balance consists of top-up monies which have been added on your behalf, you can apply for them to be refunded to you.
  • In the case of students, if the balance comes from Manchester Met funds added as part of any of the Manchester Met Student Support Packages, the balance will first be applied against your tuition fee loan (if you have one and it is still outstanding with Manchester Met). You can apply for any surplus to be paid to you.

If the top-up relates to art and design class materials or any other Manchester Met top-up other than any of the Student Support Packages, you will not be able to get a refund of any unspent amounts upon leaving Manchester Met. Refunds are subject to Manchester Met’s terms and conditions.

  1. Manchester Met reserves the right to deactivate your Met Card at any time if at its reasonable discretion it decides it is necessary. We will contact you if we must do this.

  3. Misuse of the Met Card may result in withdrawal of your Met Card and may result in disciplinary action being taken by Manchester Met. Any fraudulent or criminal activity will be reported to the police.

  5. These terms and conditions are made under English law.
