My profile
Biography
I studied at Manchester University graduating with a degree in Zoology, an MSc in Conservation Biology and a PHD on the genetic and morphological variation in populations of an endemic helicid land snail from the islands of Madeira. I have worked at MMU since 1991, employed as an invertebrate ecologist.
Interests and expertise
My interests lie in conservation of species and particularly small populations and island endemics.

Subjects: Ecology, Taxonomy & Conservation
I coordinate and teach on undergraduate units in Diversity and Conservation Biology and teach on many other units at all levels, from foundation through to MSc.
I particularly enjoy teaching on units with a practical component and especially field course component and have been involved in three this year.. One of our MSc field courses is run in Tanzania in association with the College of African Wildlife Management (CAWM). For 13 months in 1997/98 I worked at CAWM with my husband (and colleague) Dr Martin Jones. In 2001 we took, second-year UGs and MSc students from MMU to Tanzania for a field course; up until 2020 we have run this course continuously for 19 years - we intend to reinstate this 2023!
Supervision
Each year I supervise UG and MSc student projects.
In June/July 2022 I am taking 5 students (3 UGs and 2 MSc) to Madeira to collect data for their respective projects.
