Brexit expert shares academic insight with media and industry
Dr Kathryn Simpson comments on the latest Brexit developments
A Senior Lecturer from Manchester Metropolitan’s Business School has summarised the recent Brexit drama in UK politics through a range of media appearances and events.
Dr Kathryn Simpson, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Political Economy, is an expert in Brexit and a regular media commentator on European, British and Irish politics.
As well as appearances on BBC Radio Manchester and BBC Radio Stoke, Dr Simpson featured live on BBC Breakfast on Sunday July 8 to discuss the fallout from the UK Government’s Chequers agreement.
Dr Simpson said: “It has been a week of dramatic events in relation to Brexit and we have seen a number of interesting developments. It is a fascinating area of research and it is always a pleasure to discuss and summarise the subject in the media.”
Later today (July 12), Dr Simpson will be taking part in BBC 5Live’s “Question Time Extra Time” in front of a live audience at MediaCityUK in Salford. The show will be available on the BBC Red Button and will be streamed live on Facebook.

And the hard work doesn’t stop there. Next week, Dr Simpson will be attending a guest briefing to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) in London, which will be broadcast to all DWP offices in London, Leeds and Sheffield.
This comes before a further guest briefing to the Chemicals North West Brexit User Group. Chemicals North West is a cluster support organisation for the £10 billion North West chemical sector that supports and promotes the interests and activities of the chemistry-using industries.
Dr Simpson added: “Brexit affects every business and area of the economy in the UK and the work underway within our Future Economies Research Unit at Manchester Metropolitan is helping to shape discussions about the future.
“Sharing our research through industry events and speaking about the latest developments in the media are some of the ways to raise awareness of our continuing work in this area.”
Dr Simpson is one of a range of academics at Manchester Metropolitan who are available to provide expert commentary for journalists.
