Investment opportunity for business brains of tomorrow

£2,500 investment chance for best business proposal

STUDENTS based in Manchester will be given the opportunity to showcase their business talent and win £2,500 worth of investment through #HillarysStartUp.

The #HillarysStartUp competition has been set up by leading made-to-measure blinds specialist Hillarys in association with Manchester Metropolitan University and media agency Carat Manchester, and is in place to find the business talent of the future.

Entrants are required to come up with a unique business proposal, with six finalists being chosen to pitch their idea in full to a panel of industry experts on 14 June at the culmination of MMU’s Entrepreneurs’ Week.

Open to university students based in Manchester, it’s all about coming up with a great business proposal and really selling your idea. Those looking to enter will need to provide a short description of their business concept, but most importantly a three minute video detailing their proposal in full.

The Panel

The Dragons’ Den style panel of expert judges will consist of three of the leading minds when it comes to both business and media. Commercial Director of Hillarys, Simon Dalby will be joined by MMU’s Principal Lecturer in Digital Marketing & Enterprise, David Edmundson-Bird; and Andy Jeal, Managing Partner at Carat Manchester.

Those looking to enter need to do so by 27 May 2013, uploading their three minute video and providing a short description of their business proposal. Once the video has been reviewed, successful applicants will receive a link to their video hosted on the Hillarys site.

Most importantly, however, it’s not just about coming up with a great concept and leaving it at that. Those selected to pitch will not only have the top ideas in the competition, they will be the ones who have created a buzz around their idea. Promotion through various social media channels is therefore essential to stand a chance of pitching for the final prize.

All videos must be uploaded to the following page on the Hillarys website http://www.hillarys.co.uk/hillarys-startup
