Excellent employment figures

97 per cent in work or further study

Graduates from MMU’s Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education enjoy an exceedingly high employment rate according to the latest careers figures from the Government.

Within six months of graduation, close to 97% found employment or were investing in continued study.

The Faculty had the most exceptional results in teacher training and the health professions. And overall a massive 89.5% were in jobs as opposed to study or voluntary work, compared to 63% of graduates nationally.

Teacher training

An outstounding 355 out of 358 students on the PGCE Secondary course found employment or study place within six months of graduating from the Institute of Education which trains teachers in Manchester and in Crewe, Cheshire.

But a collapse in the market for primary teachers in the North West, left 21 of 217 graduates in primary education still looking for work.

84 out of 86 health studies students found employment within six months which gave the course a 97% employment rate. Social workers also enjoyed a high employment rate with 52 out of 56 students finding employment.

MMU's excellent record

A spokesperson for the Faculty said: "We are rightly proud of the excellent employability of our graduates. Well done to each and every one of them."

Stacey Allan, 21, from Cumbria, who has gone on to a Master's in Social Work after completing the BA Communication degree, said: "MMU provided me with the stepping stone I needed towards a career in social work. It was a very positive experience at Didsbury campus."

Nationally 93% of UK graduates were employed of in study six months after graduating. The MMU average was 94.6%.

The figures were released in July in the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey by HESA, the Higher Education Statistics Agency - www.hesa.ac.uk/press
