Supporting you during your study
All of our teaching team have been practising nurses, health visitors or advanced practitioners at some point in their careers, so they know what is like to be a student nurse. They also still work in their specialist areas, alongside their roles at Manchester Met, so they also understand the relevat skills which are up to date with NHS standards.
When you’re on placement, you’re allocated a mentor in practice (a registered adult nurse), who has completed an appropriate mentorship qualification. Whether you are looking to start your nursing journey as a Nursing Associate, an Adult Nurse or are looking to gain academic recognition for your experience on our PgDip route, your mentor will be chosen to reflect the needs that you have and to be able to fully support you into practice.
If you are thinking about applying to university you may be wondering how you will afford it. There’s a wide variety of financial support available for nursing degrees, with a range of sponsorships and studentships.
If you chose to study nursing you will no longer receive the NHS bursary. Instead, you will have access to the same student loans system as other students but you will be eligible to the NHS Learning Support Fund which is a non-repayable support.
We also currently offer a £750 per year Student Support Package for new, full-time, first year undergraduate students. To be eligible you must have applied online to be income assessed by Student Finance.
Our Adult Nursing programme has been consistently recognised for the excellent standard of our academic programme. We have been finalists in the best pre-registration programme every year since 2012 in the Student Nursing Times Awards, winning on three occasions.
The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrate the very best in student nurses and nursing education. Each category recognises universities that offer high standards of academic and practical teaching, where teaching staff inspire, enthuse and motivate as well as educate the next generation of nurses and overall provide excellent resources.
