Our department at Manchester Metropolitan University is home to a diverse range of experts. We’re a large team of specialists, and we cover many aspects of nursing and healthcare.
We have real insight and experience of practising in the roles we teach, as we have all worked as nurses, health visitors or emergency practitioners at points in our healthcare careers.
We are passionate and enthusiastic about helping our students to reach their goals and we put our students at the heart of everything we do. This helps us to make sure that our students stay connected to the professional and practical requirements of their programme.
As we like to say in the Department of Nursing, “we don’t just provide our students with qualifications; we teach them to become professionals”.
Our academic staff have all been practising nurses, health visitors or emergency practitioners at some stage in their careers.
They are highly skilled, motivated, and passionate about developing your skills and experience within the field of nursing.
Many of our staff continue to work in a professional role in practice alongside their academic duties. This helps to ensure that the academic skills they teach are real, relevant and up-to-date with current NHS standards.
A number of our staff have also won awards in their own specialist areas, and are recognised and respected both in the region and nationally for their contributions.
The Department of Nursing at Manchester Met has strong associations and partnerships with local NHS Trusts.
Many of our students spend their practice placements with a local NHS Trust, and especially with NHS North West, who are one of our main stakeholders.
As graduates, our students are highly valued and employable both within the NHS and further afield. We currently have graduates working in the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
