Project summary

  • April 2021 to March 2023

The project will use documentary film-making to examine the role of arts, sport and culture play in helping soldiers make the transition to civilian life.

Researchers will use co-productive and creative methods to help veterans tell their own stories, and in particular challenge stereotypes about ex-soldiers being either heroes or victims. The resulting films will document the personal impact of arts participation, such as theatre projects helping veterans creatively examine their experiences.

The project is being led by Anglia Ruskin University, with Manchester Met and the University of Exeter.
