We carry out cutting-edge research into the main burdens on UK health and wellbeing in the 21st century – namely bacterial infection, cardiovascular disease, and age-related decline.
Our research is grouped under three areas:
Microbiology – researchers here aim to minimise the negative impact of living with pathogenic bacteria in our modern society.
Cardiovascular Science – researchers here focus on damage to the lining of the blood vessel, its consequences within the vessel wall which ultimately can result in a heart attack or stroke.
Healthy ageing – our researchers are interested in how environmental factors can influence healthy ageing and wellbeing. They will be looking at how factors such as stress can contribute to diseases associated with cognitive, psychiatric, reproductive and metabolic decline.
