One slide, three minutes, ground-breaking research

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a competition that challenges doctoral students to describe their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes, using only one slide and no other resources or props.

Congratulations to our Three Minute Thesis 2019 winner Nicola Edwards, and our runner up, Dounia Hachelef!

Nicola Edwards won the Manchester Metropolitan institutional Three Minute Thesis® (3MT) competition on 19 June 2019 with an engaging exploration of her research into treatment for young sufferers of Lupus.

Young sufferers of Lupus are up to 50 times more likely to have a heart attack - but what if this risk could be explained and identified? Nicola's research is already saving lives by making GPs aware of the risk of heart attacks in their patients. Watch her 3MT-winning presentation to find out how she did this - and where this could lead Lupus treatment in the future.

Congratulations to all the finalists:

Nicola will now go on to represent Manchester Met at the national competition in September.
