The Institute of Coding, a project supported by the Department of Computing and Mathematics recently supported the HelloHackers Society in delivering a weekend long Hackathon in the Business School.

Hackathon 2019

Dedicated Hackers still collaborating at 3.30am!

HelloHackers Soc in conjunction with the Department of Computing and Mathematics, took over the Business School for 24 hours in January 2019 and brought dozens of people together from all over the UK and abroad for a Hackathon.

A Hackathon is an invention marathon event in which students in computer programming, software development, graphic designers, interface design, and others collaborate intensively on software projects for a 24hr period.

The participants arrived early on Saturday morning and stayed all weekend with some sleeping over night in Business School Lecture Theatres and others powering through to work all night!

Iqrah the Chair of HelloHackers Soc said "I had a completely wrong perception about hackathons before, this changed when I attended my first one. Hackathons are all about collaboration,
creativity and creation. This is something that I wanted to bring to my university which is why is started the helloHackers society and organize ManMetHacks. It was amazing to see students from all over the UK and Denmark attend this hackathon. It went surprisingly pretty smoothly, thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, the faculty, SU and Darren Dancey for being so supportive of us!"

Dr Darren Dancey, Head of School for Computing, Maths and Digital Technology and Man Met's Lead for the Institute of Coding said ''We were delighted to welcome so many students to the Manchester Met Hackathon, As part of our partnership with the Institute of Coding we're working hard to explore new ways to close the UK's digital skills gap and events like these are hugely beneficial for participants to develop their digital skills - Thanks to the HelloHackers Society for delivering a great event and thanks to the sponsors for their support to make it happen!''
