Can you tell us about your Sport and Exercise Science Journey?

I was a professional athlete and am currently semi-professional, so learning how to best train and fuel my body and how it worked really intrigued me.

I have been involved with various volunteering opportunities and placements in terms of nutrition for organisations like Manchester City Football Club, Sale Sharks Rugby Club and MMU Sport.

After graduating, I gained some work experience and then started my role as Head of Nutrition. I saw an advert for the role online, applied, got through to the interview process which was very positive, then I received the job!

My role involves providing nutrition advice to clients for weight loss, muscle gain and performance etc; creating infographics to educate people about specific nutrition components and developing diet and meal plan preparation and support for clients.

I found that the theories I learnt during my degree, like how to structure nutrition for individuals, are really useful in my current role. If you want to work in Sport and Exercise Sciences, research your interests and get involved with as much as possible!

What is your greatest achievement?

Graduating and getting a job in my field whilst remaining true to myself.

What advice would you give to students who aspire to a career in Sport and Exercise Science?

Research your interests and get involved with as much as possible!

What does diversity in Sport and Exercise Science mean to you?

Everything. The best person should get the job, but different faces encourage and inspire different individuals. As someone from an ethnic minority group, we are underrepresented and as an ethnic minority we are underrepresented and this is something that needs to be changed!

Broaden your horizons.
