Using WolframAlpha and Mathematica® to Teach A-Level Mathematics

In an exciting new venture Manchester University and MMU in association with the FMSP is offers a One-day Professional Development course on 'Using WolframAlpha and Mathematica to teach A Level Maths'.

This course will be FREE and refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Mathematical packages are now routinely used on many STEM degree courses and in industry and have proven to be both popular and invaluable. Dr Stephen Lynch FIMA SFHEA from the Manchester Metropolitan University will introduce the packages and aims to show how they can be used to enhance teaching and learning in Schools and Colleges. The course is suitable for any interested Maths A-Level teachers. No previous knowledge of the packages is required but teachers who do have experience with them should also find it useful.

Wolfram Alpha is available free online and Mathematica is free on the Raspberry Pi. Wolfram are also offering schools/colleges (pre-university level) copies of Mathematica for just £180.

Enlivening Mathematics Teaching through Maths Research

This is a rare opportunity for teachers of mathematics to reconnect with real world mathematics. Through a choice of workshops, participants will engage in a variety of activities where the application of maths is essential.

These experiences can be transferred to the classroom to inspire and motivate students. The majority of presenters are STEM Ambassadors with whom you can make contact and invite into your organisation. Suitable for all mathematics teachers at KS3, KS4 & KS5.
