Jian graduated from Wuhan University with his BSc in River Mechanics and Engineering and subsequently completed his MSc in Fluvial Mechanics at Tsinghua University. He received his PhD in Fluid Mechanics from Leeds University. Since then, he has been working in the development and application of mathematical models and numerical methods for coastal, estuary, hydraulic and river engineering including sediment transport.
