My research interests are broad, but centre around haematology, immunology and transfusion medicine.
My research applies directly to both the clinical setting and the industrial setting, with impact in
both sectors. Historically my research has focused on tumour cell biology, looking at the utility of signalling
pathway inhibitors to target the classic hallmarks of cancer. However, I have moved into the area of drug
repurposing, looking at anti-cancer and anti-platelet actions of novel compounds. My research has also
become more translational, having clear clinical impact; I have collaborated with clinicians and clinical
scientists in areas of transfusion-transmitted infection testing, blood conservation strategies and methods to
prevent transfusion-associated sepsis.
