About us

Delivering high-quality education and research in social care and social work

The Department of Social Care and Social Work challenge the ways in which care is delivered to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.

We are committed to making a difference to the lives of people who access health and social care services, carers and the wider community.

Our academic staff are nationally and internationally renowned for their expertise in social justice and human rights, informing the latest policy guidance.

Within the North West, our academics also hold strong connections and work closely with a number of key industry employers.

Social Work is ranked 5th in the UK (The Guardian University Guide 2022). We deliver Social Work England-approved courses, which allow our students to apply for professional registration with Social Work England to practice as a registered social worker.

We deliver excellence in teaching in the department at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. We provide high quality Step Up To Social Work partnership teaching and are leading the delivery of Social Work and Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship Health and Social Care nationally.
