Introduction

The Department of Sociology at Manchester Met offers a range of masters programmes, all of which aim to equip you with the skills to progress to higher research programmes or to enter and progress to senior roles in a range of professional careers.

Our masters courses are informed by experts in their field, from MA Applied Criminology, taught by former justice practitioners and research experts; to the Master of Public Administration and MSc Evaluation and Policy Analysis, which are both led by academics from the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU). You can also choose to study our MSc Digital Society programme, which covers theories and practices of digital sociology as well as an in-depth exploration of the global digital sociology.

Each of these degrees look outwards to the real-world, enhancing your employability for when you graduate through a range of opportunities, including research placements, guest lectures and involvement in projects with real-world impact.

I love how flexible and student-oriented my course is - teaching is a mix of online and face to face, so I get the best of both worlds! I can complete my studies around my work, but I still get the chance to meet my course mates and lecturers in person.

I completed a placement reviewing literature on drug use in young people and interviewed them on their use and any mental health implications. This has helped to improve my research skills, understanding and empathy, which is key when working with people in the criminal justice system.
