"Man Met has given me the opportunity to study the areas that I am passionate about, while being able to live in one of the busiest, most vibrant cities in the country; enrolling here is one of the best decisions I have ever made."
What do you like most about your course?

I am very interested in human behaviour and how we as humans, can improve our quality of life through learning from one-another. Through studying sociology I have the opportunity to develop this interest, because with each lecture, I am able to discover alternative ideas, differing perspectives, and new understandings of the world. This means that I am constantly evaluating the way that I look at the world and I believe this to be a huge advantage as this makes me better equipped to deal with whatever comes my way in life and also helps me to have better relationships with the people I meet.

What skills do you feel you have gained during your studies at Man Met?

Sociology has taught me to think critically about the world and to question everyday assumptions that I would have previously taken for granted. Through studying sociology I have begun to understand the world in different ways. I have learnt that the world is extremely complex and ever changing, therefore we must be open minded and continually question our perspectives in order to ensure we are doing everything we can to make progress and make it a better place; for now and in the future. The opportunities that have come from studying at Man Met have allowed me to meet so many new and like-minded people that I wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to meet.

What is your top tip for other students looking to study this course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

Engage with the course as much as you possibly can. Go to your lectures and don’t be afraid to ask questions and get involved in discussions. Sociology deals with very complex ideas which often seem daunting and hard to understand. This is because they are, but remember, as a student it is your job to learn, and nobody expects you to have come here knowing all the answers. Learning is a journey so try not to feel intimidated, the lecturers are all experts in their own areas and are a brilliant source of help so don’t be afraid to approach them and ask them to explain things. Remember that they were all once in your position too. Class discussions are a great place for developing your knowledge and broadening your understandings.
