Alhussein is a very motivated researcher and a lecturer with engaging style. He has been working for over 21 years with both industry and academia. After obtained a 1st class degree in Engineering Physics from Nasser University in July 1993, he worked with Oil and Power industry until end of 2000. He then studied Instrumentation Systems Engineering at UMIST and Mechanical Engineering at School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, Manchester University and was awarded his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in December 2001 and November 2005, respectively.
He has widely published in the fields of electromechanical plants maintenance, diagnostics and on hybrid power systems performance optimisation. Contributions to public domain include over 57 papers in refereed journals and international conference proceedings, a book on diesel engines vibrations, a book chapter on the field of electromechanical plants maintenance and diagnostics and a number of magazine articles. Since 2007, Alhussein has attracted some £700k in funding to support his research activities from the UK, EU and overseas industry. To date, he has successfully supervised to completion seven PhD, 3 MPhil, 9 MRes and over 15 MSc projects.
He is an editor for the journal of vibration and wave propagation (CIP, USA), regular reviewer for a number of journals and conferences within his specialism. Distinctive research work outcomes include the development of specialized computer based testing scheme allowing programmable analysis of MEMS accelerometers performance, designing of MEMS-based intelligent diagnostic system, an adaptive algorithm for quantifying acoustic power released by the injection process within internal combustion engines and the development of smart power flow controllers for hybrid power systems.
