Have you ever wanted to try a new sport but not known where to start? Want to re-visit a past hobby?

Whether you're a new or returning student, our coach-led short courses are a great way to build or perfect your skills, get active and most importantly, have fun.

What do we offer?

We deliver a range of activities throughout the year including Tennis, Track Cycling, Jiu Jitsu and more. All of our courses are delivered over a five - eight week block and start from as low as £25

We offer a full programme of courses across term one and term two but if you'd like to register your interest for a course, or to make an activity suggestion, please email sport@mmu.ac.uk. 

 

Activities on offer

Tennis (6 weeks)

Are you looking to perfect your serve or learn basic tennis skills? Our 6-week tennis course will teach you everything from the volley to the smash.

Where does it take place?

Our course takes place at Regional Tennis Centre, Sportcity, Gate 2, Manchester, M11 3F.

How do I get there?

From Campus:

Bike = 2.6 miles, 16 minutes, via Ashton canal Tow Path

Car = 3.5 miles, 14 minutes , via Alan Turing Way

Tram = 20 – 30 minutes, via Blue line.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided, but please ensure that you wear comfortable sportswear.

When does it start?

Every Wednesday 20:00 – 21:00 starting 23rd October – 27th November.

How much does it cost?

£30 per person for the 6-week course.

Track Cycling (6 weeks)

Whether you’re an avid road cyclist looking to experience the track, or haven’t been on a bike in years, this beginners track cycling course is suitable for everyone. Discover the difference between cycling on the road and on a track of Olympian standard.

Where does it take place?

National Cycling Centre, Stuart Street, Manchester. Velodrome track.

How do I get there?

From Campus:

Bike = 3.2 miles, 19 minutes, via Ashton Tow Path

Car = 3.5 miles, 14 minutes, via Ashton Old Road

Tram = 30 - 35 minutes, Blue line

What equipment will I need?

Come wearing comfortable clothes and suitable footwear i.e. trainers.

Bikes and helmets will be provided by the NCC.

When does it start?

Every Wednesday 13:00 – 14:00 starting 23rd October – 27th November.

How much does it cost?

£40 per person for the 6-week course.

Mountain Biking (5 Weeks)

Getting bored of your normal, everyday route? Join our 5-week mountain bike course and feel that adrenaline rush as you learn to increase your speed and navigate your way round different tracks and routes.

Where does it take place?

National Cycling Centre, Stuart Street, Manchester.

THE MTB SKILLS AREA AND TRIALS.

How do i get there?

From Campus:

Bike = 3.2 miles, 19 minutes, via Ashton Tow Path

Car= 3.5 miles,  14 minutes, via Ashton Old Road

Tram = 30 - 35minutes, Blue line

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided by the venue, but please bring comfortable sportswear.

Bikes and helmets will be provided by the NCC.

Bring your own gloves should you want to wear them.

Tuesday 22nd October, 29th October, 5th November, 26th November and 3rd December. 13:00 - 14:00.

How much does it cost?

It costs £35.00 for the five-week course.

Ten Pin Bowling (5 weeks)

Whether you fancy yourself as a strike master or bumpers are your best friend, join us for this 5-week course and perfect your bowling technique. Chill out in a cool venue and practise turning that spare into a strike.

Where does it take place?

Dog Bowl, Whitworth St W, Manchester M1 5WW

How do I get there?

From campus:

Bike = 0.5 miles, 4 minutes , via National Cycle Route 6, Hulme St and Oxford St

Car = 0.8 miles, 5 minutes , via Whitworth St West

Walk = 0.4 miles, 8 minutes, via Oxford Street.

What equipment will I need?

Wear comfortable clothes.

When does it start?

Every Sunday from 20th Oct to 17th Nov. 19:00pm-20:30pm.

How much does it cost?

£25.00 Per person for the five-week course.

Jiu Jitsu (8 weeks)

Begin your journey to becoming a black belt with our 8-week course. Learn close combat and defensive counter attack moves with top class trainers.

Where does it take place?

Main Functional Hall, Brooks Building, Manchester Met

How do I get there?

From Campus;

Bike= 0.8 miles, 5mins, Via Bonsall St and Booth St

Car= 1.2 miles, 6mins, Via Oxford Road

Walk= 0.6 miles, 12mins, Via Bonsall St.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided by the venue, but please bring comfortable sportswear.

When does it start?

Every Tuesday from 8th October to 26th November, 19:00 -21:00.

How much does it cost?

£30.00 per person for the eight-week course.

Women Who Lift (6 Weeks)

Are you ready to help us squash the stereotype that women can’t lift weights? Whether you want to improve muscle, build strength or tone up, this 6-week course will boost your confidence and leave you feeling fitter than ever.

Where does it take place?

Platt Lane Sports Complex

How do I get there?

From Campus:

Bike = 2.0 miles, 13 minutes , via Oxford Rd and Heald Pl

Car = 2.8 miles, 13 minutes , via A34

Bus = 20 minutes, No. 111.

What equipment will I need?

Come wearing comfortable clothes and suitable footwear i.e. trainers.

Bring your own gloves should you want to wear them.

How much does it cost?

£25 per person for the 6-week course.

When does it start?

Every Wednesday from 16th October to 20th November, 16:00 - 17:00.
