Have you ever wanted to try a new sport but not known where to start? Want to re-visit a past hobby?

Whether you're a new or returning student, our coach-led short courses are a great way to build or perfect your skills, get active and most importantly, have fun.

What do we offer?

We deliver a range of activities throughout the year including Tennis, Track Cycling, Jiu Jitsu and more. All of our courses are delivered over a five - eight week block and start from as low as £25

We offer a full programme of courses across term one and term two but if you'd like to register your interest for a course, or to make an activity suggestion, please email sport@mmu.ac.uk. 

 

Activities on offer

Climbing (6 weeks)

Learn how to scale a wall with ease on our rock-climbing course. Watch and learn from professional coaches and discover how to defy gravity.

How do I get there?

From campus:

Bike = 1.8 miles, 10 minutes, via Oxford Rd/ A34

Car = 2.7 miles, 8 minutes, via A57 (M) and Ring Road

Tram = 25 minutes, via no. 41 or 18

What equipment do I need?

Comfortable clothes and thin socks.

When?

Every Tuesday 17:00 – 18:00 starting Tuesday 4th February - Tuesday 17th March

Olympic Lifting (6 weeks)

Come down to our very own weights room and see what your max lift of a loaded barbell is. Challenge yourself and see what is possible, we might even see you in Tokyo!

Power Lifting (6 Weeks)

Whether you’ve never lifted a weight before or you’re looking to improve your squat, bench press and deadlift, our expert coaches can help you transform your gym programme.

Wrestling (6 weeks)

Like the sound of learning how to do clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds? Wrestling is the sport for you then. Get trained by GB level coaches in the amazing National training centre.

What equipment do I need?

Comfortable clothes. Preferably, not anything very baggy as it can obstruct some movements.

When?

Every Monday 18:00 - 19:30 starting Monday 27th January - Monday 2nd March.

Archery (6 weeks)

Discover your inner Katniss Everdeen or Robin Hood and come down to the Sugden Sports centre and try your hand at a bow and arrow.

From the All Saints library, cross the road to Sidney street and follow the road round where you will see the Sugden reception.

Comfortable clothes.

When?

Every Sunday at 17:30 - 19:00 starting Sunday 26th January - Sunday 1st March.

How much does it cost?

£25 per person for the 6-week course.

Diving - Block 1 (4 Weeks)

Want to learn how to change your cannon ball into a swan dive; this is the programme for you. Get your shammy’s at the ready and dive head first into your new challenge.

Manchester Aquatics centre.

How do I get there?

From campus:

Opposite the Geoffrey Manton building exit on Oxford road.

What equipment do I need?

Swimming gear. Goggles if wanted.

When?

5th Feb-26th Feb  (Wednesday evenings).

How much does it cost?

£20 per person for the 4-week course.

Skiing (3 weeks)

From beginners who are unsure how to ski, to those confident on the slopes, the professional instructors at Chill Factore will give you a session you will not forget.

Warm clothes, warm coat, thick socks, hat and gloves.

When?

Every Thursday at 20:00 - 21:50  starting Thursday 27th February - Thursday 12th March.

How much does it cost?

£65 per person for the 3-week course.
