MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN University sport scholar, Alice Sharpe, earned bronze at the annual British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Duathlon Championships on Sunday 22 November.

The event, which took place at the Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire, saw over 700 competitors gather for the two mile run, ten mile bike and two mile run event.

This year’s event saw six athletes take part.

Competing in the elite women’s event, Sharpe finished in third place overall with a time of 49.33.2, just a second behind silver medallist, Eleanor Campbell (49.32.2), after an outstanding second run.

Last year’s event saw Sharpe finish tenth at the event.

Speaking after the race, Sharpe said, “I am so happy to take third place at the BUCS Duathlon Championships 2015, which had an extremely strong field.

“The event was a great test of fitness and positive encouragement to continue training hard over winter ahead of the triathlon season.

“I would like to thank my team mates and the University for all the support they have given me.”
