Biography

Dr Mary Joy Baloyo joined the Manchester Metropolitan University as a Lecturer in Strategy, Enterprise and Sustainability Department, having formerly been a PhD graduate in Management at the University of Liverpool. Prior to joining Manchester Metropolitan University, Mary Joy held lecturing positions within Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship Department at the University of Liverpool Management School.

Mary Joy was awarded the doctoral scholarship by the University of Liverpool Management School and has established research on the areas of entrepreneurship, gender, intersectionality and philosophy of critical realism. Mary Joy’s passion for conducting qualitative research was founded from her primary interest on critical philosophy, intersectionality, identities, work, family/household and relevant life domains including the impact of organisational structures and policy interventions. 

Current Research and Collaborations

Mary Joy’s current research explores work, entrepreneurship and gender within the context of the household, division of labour and how this translates to methodology and philosophy of social science more specifically. She works closely with knowledge exchange research centres within Manchester Metropolitan University and he University of Liverpool, as well as outside of academia such as Business Enterprise and Critical Realism Network.

Interests and Academic Citizenship

In tangent with Mary Joy’s role as a Lecturer, she is an active researcher of the Decent, Work and Productivity Research Centre and Sylvia Pankhurst Gender and Diversity Research Centre. She holds an active role as an Early Career Researcher representative and member of the organising committee for the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship: the Gender and Enterprise Network Special Interest Group. Over the years, she is an established and active member for the Critical Realism Network and Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative.
