We have been delivering training to teachers and education professionals for over 100 years. From our origins 100 years ago at our predecessor colleges in Crewe and Didsbury, we now deliver our full suite of courses at the impressive £139 million development in Hulme, Manchester and also teach our BA (Hons) Primary Education at our Chesire Campus. The School is responsible for three main areas, Primary Teacher Education, Secondary Teacher Education, and Professional Development.
This department specialises in training for primary school teaching, including early years. We work in partnership with over 500 schools and have strong community links across the North West region. Both our BA and PGCE courses lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and PGCE students can also choose between a University-led or School Direct route. There is an Assessment-Only route for those with significant previous teaching experience who need QTS.
For those wishing to teach in secondary schools or colleges, this department offers expertise in over 20 specialisms. These include the national priority subjects: Mathematics; Science; Physics with Mathematics; Modern Foreign Languages; Design & Technology; Computing with ICT.
This department unites the Faculty’s Professional Development awards and short courses, alongside our pioneering work in diverse spheres of Education. Our courses are closely linked with the University's research groups, including the Education and Social Research Institute.
