About My Course

I knew I wanted to become a Primary School teacher and chose MMU because it has a good reputation with a high percentage of students going straight into a job after graduating. Prior to the course I completed 10 weeks work experience in different schools in Cheshire.

The Cheshire campus is within walking distance from my house – I did not want to move away from home. Also, by staying local I have been able to continue working at my part-time job in Crewe.

I am thoroughly enjoying the placement blocks, they are challenging, however, extremely rewarding. Placements are the most important part of the course as they allow students to link theory with practice – whilst on placement we see examples of things we have discussed in University sessions.

The course is providing me with the necessary knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a teacher and at the end of it I will graduate with Qualified Teacher Status. Having such a supportive mentor is very beneficial and tutors are approachable, friendly and willing to help with any aspect of the course.

My advice to future applicants would be to ensure you have as much experience as possible working with children prior to the course as you are expected to be teaching some lessons by the end of term one. This may seem daunting, but is really beneficial because the sooner you start to teach, the more confident you will become.
