The School of Teacher Education and Professional Development is proud to have been training teachers and education professional for over 100 years.
Our undergraduate degree programmes are designed to develop knowledge and practice across the range of careers involving working with children and young people in educational contexts. We train our students to become professionals with the skills and expertise to gain employment in their chosen fields and to develop as experienced practitioners.
Our one year full time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses include Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 60 Masters level credits. We offer Primary and Secondary routes, and have over 20 subject specialisms, with a choice of University, School-led or Assessment only routes to QTS. We have partnerships with over 1500 schools and community groups across the North West, ensuring students have access to diverse and stimulating placement experience.
Our postgraduate portfolio has been designed to give our students a competitive edge in the employment market. We have liaised with our colleagues in practice to understand the needs, requirements and challenges that they face and have created a range of professional, and relevant post-graduation training to reflect these needs. We also offer a wide range of multi-disciplinary, professional training and career development courses across all sectors of education. Our Professional Development programmes are delivered on a flexible, modular basis and can be taken as stand-alone units, short courses or can be taken to form part of a wider master’s or post-doctoral qualification.
