Find out more about becoming a Primary school teacher

View our Courses

We’ve been training primary school teachers for over 100 years.

Our aim is to train you to become a confident and reflective teacher with the ability to explain what and why you are teaching.

All of our lecturers have previously been primary school teachers and we have over 40 members of staff in our teaching team.

We have expertise in all primary curriculum subjects and we offer a wide range of specialisms, including Special Educational Needs and Early Years.

Ofsted identified one of our key strengths as being the strong support our trainees receive for their personal, academic, and professional needs.

As a student with us, you’ll receive support from our tutors, class teachers, mentors, and head teachers. You’ll also have a personal tutor and a dedicated tutor on placement.

When you graduate and become a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT), we’ll continue to provide support and advice.

Partnerships

Developing inspirational partnerships is central to our success in Primary teacher education and we work with over 500 schools across the North West region.

These partner schools cover a wide geographical area and diversity of social, economic and cultural backgrounds, ranging across inner city, suburban and rural settings. This enables us to offer our trainees a broad range of placement opportunities.

The schools we work with share our commitment to aspiration and excellence, with a focus on strong mentor training and support for trainees. There is also an emphasis on national priorities, including behaviour management, phonics and mathematics.

Partnership vision: to train outstanding, critically-literate professional teachers who will challenge and inspire their learners.
