About the SafeZone app

Keeping students safe at Manchester Met is always our top priority. We are working in partnership with the University of Salford and University of Manchester to keep you safe when studying on campus or having fun in the city using our SafeZone app

The app is free to download, easy to use, and has loads of really useful features:

  • ‘Check in’ any time of day – tell us where you are 24/7 (especially if you’re alone, or working with hazardous materials)

  • Quickly and discretely call for assistance – whether it’s for first aid or in an emergency

As long as you raise the alert in the below locations, help will be on its way:

Please visit our Personal Safety webpage for further information on staying safe in and around campus.

The SafeZone privacy notice explains how your personal data is processed when you use the SafeZone app.

How do I...

  • Download and use the app?

    • Download the SafeZone App on Google Play or the App Store by searching for ‘SafeZone’
    • Open the app and enter your University email address and create your SafeZone password
    • You will then automatically be linked to the University’s SafeZone location
    • Make sure to remember to ‘check in’ every time you’re on campus
  • Check in to let someone know where I am?

    • Press the ‘check in’ button in the top right corner of your screen
    • Checking in doesn’t raise an alert, but it is useful to let first responders know where you are in case of an emergency
    • You can also press the timer next to the check in button. This raises an alert automatically if not cancelled and may be useful when working or walking home alone
  • Get help in an emergency?

    • If you are a victim or a witness to a crime, press the red ‘emergency’ button at the bottom of your screen to raise an alert with Campus Security and call the emergency services
    • You can also use the ‘emergency’ button if you require urgent medical assistance
    • If you are in a situation where you can’t (or don’t want to) speak on the phone, the new chat function will allow you to instant message with a responder for extra assistance
