CHOOSING A DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP

I chose a degree apprenticeship because I am a practical learner, and I like to put my knowledge into practice straight away. I thought the block learning and then going straight into work would be a great mix for me.

Another reason I went into the Digital User Experience (UX) Professional Degree Apprenticeship was to have a routine I could use to keep doing my lectures and my work, as I believe university can offer too much freedom, and I was scared of falling into this trap.

I was the first person in my school to do something other than a full-time degree, so I am passionate about it. It’s almost the future, and it is how people should try and learn.

STUDYING AT MANCHESTER MET

I really like the Manchester Met campus and the feel of it when I was looking on the open days. I applied to ten or twelve apprenticeships, and I got a couple, but this was the one I really wanted to do.

One of my favourite parts has been spending time on campus, speaking to lecturers outside classes, and discussing what they do and their experience in the industry.

PUTTING KNOWLEDGE INTO PRACTICE

I can implement my learning into my work quite well because of the sprint work we are doing and the work we do with our squad and our teams. All the things we technically learn how to do at the University we can put to work immediately as soon as we get back to the company.

I work with content designers and UX designers across lots of different roles. We’re on an eight-month rotation within the company, so we will shadow other people to learn about various work positions.
