Chartered Manager – Health and Social Care Degree Apprentice Case Studies

I rarely turn down an opportunity and the degree is no different. My children are also proud that I “push myself” and have gone back into studying – I want to inspire them to understand that we can do anything!

I have been told throughout the course from peers and colleagues that I have grown as a manager and that my approach to management has changed. I’ve learnt to adjust my techniques and take on new management styles that best suit me and my team. 

A degree apprenticeship gives you an opportunity to do something for yourself, not just as a parent, but as an individual. It’s something I never thought I could access. It’s made me see that nothing’s written in stone, you can always change career, or change course, at any age.

I can honestly say that I’ve never before experienced the levels of support that I have on the Chartered Manager Health and Social Care Degree Apprenticeship at Manchester Met.

This Degree Apprenticeship has enabled me to present my project at WONCA Europe Conference 2023. I am also working towards getting my project published in SAGE journals. If it wasn’t for this programme I would not be where I am now.  

The programme has been very challenging, but I’ve been able to put into practice the leadership theories and tools that we have been studying to push myself out of my comfort zones. As a result, I’ve been successful in securing a promotion.  

I have enjoyed it and already even in these early days, the Degree Apprenticeship compliments my work as a Clinical Lead.

My apprenticeship has given me so much more than I was expecting in terms of new learning and it is perfect for me at this stage of my career. I feel more confident in my own ability to lead and manage. I really believe my team and the organisation are benefiting too.

What I’ve enjoyed most about the degree apprenticeship is the collaborative working with my peers and mixing with people I wouldn’t normally work with. It’s really interesting to hear about their experiences, what they’ve done and how they’ve done it, and then utilising that to influence my own ways of working.
