credible student

Credibility check

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) carries out a test for most Student visa applications made outside of the UK to make sure that you are a genuine student.

They also may carry out the test for applications made in the UK, but these instances are rare.

Credibility interview

UKVI asks you to attend an interview which will be carried out at an application centre by video call. The application centre will send a copy of the interview transcript to the caseworker assessing your application. They will use the transcript to decide if your answers show genuine reasons for studying in the UK.

You may not need to attend an interview with Manchester Met in order to receive your CAS, but we may still ask you for more information (usually through a video interview) if we are concerned about your application or your study history.

We recommend writing a clear personal statement that explains:

  • why you have chosen to study your course
  • why you have chosen to study at Manchester Met
  • how your area of study will support your overall career plans
  • any issues completing previous study in the UK (where applicable)
Credibility of funds

UKVI may refuse you if they believe your funds have not come from a genuine source, for example, if someone has loaned you money in a personal capacity.

You should ensure any evidence of funds you provide relates to funds that are genuinely yours or those of your parents or guardians. You should ensure that funds made available to you by anyone else are sustainable, i.e. that you will have access to them for the entirety of your course.

If you are invited for a credibility interview please email immigration@mmu.ac.uk to discuss this.
