Before you can enrol online for your course, the University must check that you have arrived and have the correct immigration permission to study in the UK. UK Visas and Immigration call this a right to study check.
We might also ask you to complete a right to study check if you are a returning student and we need updated documentation.
If we have issued you with a CAS number, you will have received a link by email to complete a right to study check. Do not use a link from anyone other than the Visa Compliance team or your educational agent, as the link is personal to you.
If you do not need a CAS number, because you do not need a Student Visa, please contact VisaCompliance@mmu.ac.uk with your MMU ID number.
You can complete a right to study check up to and including the latest date you can arrive for your course. However, you cannot enrol fully for your course until you have arrived in the UK and provided a copy of your immigration permission.
If you are studying on a distance learning course
If you are being charged an overseas fee and are studying a distance learning course, the International Compliance team will automatically unblock your record. We check for new ‘distance learning’ records twice per week. If we have not unblocked your record by the deadline we have given you to enrol, please contact VisaCompliance@mmu.ac.uk.
If you cannot arrive on time
Teaching at Manchester Met takes place on campus. You can find out more about Manchester Met’s teaching plans through our Student Life pages. The University does not have plans to extend the arrival date beyond the latest date of acceptance detailed on your CAS.
If you cannot arrive on time, please complete the travel plan and right to study form the Visa Compliance team has sent to you. We will use the information you provide to help you.
If you do not have a Student Visa or have Electronic Immigration Permission
All overseas fee-paying students need to complete a right to study check.
If you have a different type of visa from a Student visa, you need to provide your visa documentation to us during the right to study check.
If you have digital immigration permission, you must generate a share code to send us to show your immigration status.
If you need to see us in person
If you have followed all of our email instructions, and there is still a problem with your right to study check that can only be resolved in person, you can see a member of the team. They will be available in the Business School from Thursday 11th January 2024 until Monday 12th February 2024.
Please only visit us in person if:
- You have completed the right to study form since arriving in the UK
- You have been waiting for more than two working days since you submitted your right to study form and have not received a response
- You or your educational agent have not received any instructions about right to study
