Why study accounting, finance and banking?

For any organisation, from retailers to FTSE 100 businesses or national governments, success is impossible without the kind of skills that accounting, finance and banking professionals bring.  They don’t just manage the numbers, but offer a vital perspective on strategic direction and play a key role in shaping business decisions.

If you’re aiming high in the business world, you’ve found the right place to start. At Manchester Met, you’ll learn from staff that are not only academic thinkers and active researchers, but professionals sharing their own industry experience. Everything we do is rooted in business providing a valuable foundation for your career.

In this video, Accounting, Finance and Banking graduate Stefan discusses his experience at Manchester Met.

Why Manchester Met?

Qualify with professional bodies

Students on the Banking and Finance course can gain a Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualification, through self-directed study and at a reduced academic rate.

The Accounting and Finance course has been designed around exemptions for several accrediting bodies including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

Taught by financial experts

Many of our academics have either worked for large organisations such as AJ Bell, HM Revenue & Customs and the World Trade Organisation, or have extensively researched the industry.

Employers also turn to us for bespoke training, management programmes and consulting. This means you’ll be closely connected to the industry while you study with us.

Learn your way

All our students have the option to study abroad or complete a placement year. You will enrol onto a three-year course and then decide, in your second year, which option is best for you.

Choose from one of our international partner institutions, and complete a year of your studies abroad, gaining insight into global industries. You can also learn on the job with a 12-month placement where you can gain real-world insight into your chosen field.

Networking opportunities

During your time with us, there will be many opportunities to connect with graduate employers and industry professionals, including the annual accounting, finance, and banking employer café where you can network with actively recruiting companies.
