Tram

Manchester is well connected by a tram service (Metrolink) that offers a convenient way of navigating the city. Trams typically run every 12 minutes, or every 6 minutes in peak times depending on the line.

Metrolink operates a zone system, so you’ll need to know the zones you’re travelling in and make sure you purchase the correct ticket prior to boarding. Contactless payments are available.

For a map of the network, prices and timetables, visit Transport for Greater Manchester.

Bicycle

Oxford Road, which links our campus to the city centre, features separate cycle paths to help make it safe and quicker for cyclists to get around town. For a list of cycle routes throughout Manchester, visit the TfGM cycle paths page.

We support an active cycle culture on and around campus. That’s why we offer our students the chance to hire bikes and safety equipment through our MyMetCycle hire scheme. This lets students hire bikes throughout term for as little as £2.38 per week.

Getting here

Train

Manchester has four main train stations: Deansgate, Picadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria. The nearest station to us is Oxford Road, which is just a few minutes away from our campus on foot. You’ll find quick and easy train connections between the stations.

Student discounts

Students are eligible for discounted rail fares. See your options on TfGM’s tickets and passes page.

16-25 Railcard

As a student, you are entitled to a 16-25 Railcard (even if you’re a mature student), which reduces all fares nationwide by a third. You can buy a one-year or a three-year railcard online, or at your nearest train station office.

Car

There is no student car parking on campus. Students with a disability or medical condition, or who are European Blue Badge Holders, will be able to apply for a car-parking permit. Contact the Manchester Met Travel Team for information about how to apply.

Manchester airport

With an international airport that has flights arriving from all over the world, Manchester is a globally accessible city. The airport has a convenient train, which takes about 20 minutes to get into the city centre. A tram service is also available.

Commuting

Many of our students decide to take advantage of Manchester’s great transport links by commuting from home. Commuting can be a great way of combining home life and study experience while saving money on living costs. It doesn’t have to impact your student lifestyle either - trains, trams and buses can make getting in and out of Manchester quick and easy.

My life as a student commuter is brilliant. Greater financial freedom, better food and if you’re lucky, parents doing your laundry. You get to stay with your pets, not think about bills and enjoy the best of both worlds – your familiar home life and an exciting university experience.
